Roger Francois from Haiti Wenge Wood Carving Sculpture Woman Bust Head
Rare sculpture/carving Haitian Woman, signed in excellent condition.
Roger Francois was born around 1928 in Petite Riviere, on the Artibonite plain of central Haiti. He began as a wood sculptor and still carves occasionally. He has been painting as well since the early sixties. He loves to paint and sculpt Haitian women, both nudes and market women with baskets and braids.
Internationally renowned, Francois works have been exhibited in Belgium, Germany, the U.S., and France. His paintings have been on permanent exhibition in the Brussels Museum since 1963. Within the last many years, he has been seized upon by collectors, who see his versatility, and elegance of style as promises of greatness.
Due to the handmade nature of these vintage, each one may contain imperfections, giving you a truly unique piece. They add to the overall character and history of the piece.
